Re: International Women’s Day Celebration

Womanfest and Olympic Cellars Winery will jointly host their 8th annual International Women’s Day celebration on Thursday, March 8 at 6pm at Olympic Cellars Winery, 255410 Hwy 101, Port Angeles, WA.

International Women’s Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women, past, present and future. Show your support by joining Womanfest for dinner. A smorgasbord of delicious homemade soups, fresh bread, and cookies will be provided. Wine will also be available, and good cheer and conversation is always on the menu. Everyone is welcome to attend. The theme for International Women’s Day 2012 is CONNECTING GIRLS, INSPIRING FUTURES, so parents are encouraged to bring their daughters - and sons - and daughters and sons encouraged to bring their parents.

The suggested donation for dinner is $10. All funds raised by the “Soup Fest’ will be donated to First Step Family Support Center in Port Angeles. Due to a loss of public funding, First Step is struggling to provide all the support it previously has for women and families. “In the past the proceeds of the IWD event have been split between local and international concerns,” said (Molly Rivard, Womanfest board member). “This year, in recognition of the dire impact the current economic reality is imposing on many local service agencies, the Board decided to direct all proceeds from the IWD event to a local need.” Following dinner, Nita Lynn, Executive Director of First Step, will provide a brief presentation about the innovative and family-centered programs, services, support and education that First Step provides to encourage the healthy development of families in Clallam County.

Kathy Charlton, owner of Olympic Cellars, will also donate a portion of the wine sales for the evening First Step as well.

Womanfest is a local non-profit charitable organization that has been sponsoring programs, workshops, lectures, concerts and other community events, and providing women of the Olympic Peninsula with empowering experiences and associations, for more than 25 years. The organization provides financial support for women-centered projects, including annual donations to woman-focused causes, scholarships, and support for women interested in attending the annual Womanfest Retreat in September.
